Hello! I’m Eilidh, also known as the 'big boss' or 'wee yin.' I’m a multi-award-winning traditional Scottish vocalist and musician, with over 20 years of professional experience. In 2009, I won Traditional Scottish Album of the Year. As a musician, I’ve performed across Britain and Europe and have recorded several solo albums, as well as contributing to many others. I hold a BA Hons degree in Applied Music from UHI, and my love for teaching led me to establish Grants School of Music and Performance. My goal was to provide local students with tuition from not only qualified musicians but also talented, experienced, and wonderful individuals.
When I’m not running the school, teaching, or spending time with my husband, four children, and our dog, you’ll find me gigging with the Eilidh Grant Trio. My favourite part of teaching is seeing my students shine on stage after all their hard work. It takes real courage to step on stage, but once they do, they become stars!
Hello! My name is Dean and I teach guitar, bass and drums. I’ve been playing music for over 20 years and over the past ten years I was touring with my band.
I love punk rock and metal music but I also enjoy listening to and learning new styles.
My favourite thing about teaching is seeing students finding enjoyment when playing music. Seeing student progression over time is also exciting.
I want every young person to pick up an instrument and find out how fun playing music can be!

As a 2020 BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year finalist, Cameron Nixon, is an up and coming Scots folk singer and fiddle player. Cameron has taught both voice and violin in schools as well as through organisations such as Fèis and Scottish Culture and Traditions (SCAT Youth). He graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Traditional Music from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2020. Cameron regularly plays with the Ragin’ Ceilidh Band both here in Scotland and internationally too as well as hosting his own radio show on Celtic Music Radio.
When not teaching or gigging, Cameron very much enjoys the outdoors whether that’s hillwalking, camping, skiing, mountain biking or playing football.
I’m Laura, a clarsach player, pianist, and composer from Edinburgh. I attended the Gaelic school in Edinburgh, where I was immersed in Scottish tradition and song from an early age. After starting with classical piano, my passion for traditional music grew, leading me to graduate from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2024 with a BMus in traditional music.
This year I am delighted to say that I’ve reached the finals of the BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year competition.
I love working with students of all ages, leading group classes and workshops as well as offering one-to-one, student-led teaching.
When I’m not teaching or performing, I enjoy swimming, baking, and reading.
